Infant Program (0-2 years)

 

 

Goals for Infants

  • To make each infant feel safe and secure in his or her environment

  • To establish a rapport between the home schedule and the childcare centre

  • To address the individual developmental needs of each infant

  • To have a positive atmosphere for growth and development

  • To introduce the infants to new experiences through song, stories, play and hands on experiences

  • To encourage each infant to grow in his or her ability to cope with new situations.

  • To stimulate each infant in the individual areas that are necessary for proper growth and development

  • To be conscious of individual differences and fears in each infant and accommodate for them

  • To keep parents informed of growth and change in each infant

  • To help infants develop a positive attitude towards a childcare centre

  • To recognize their name in verbal communication

  • To help children begin to develop their fine motor and gross motor skills

  • To feed themselves: beginning with their hands and advancing to use of a spoon

  • To develop a beginning interest in books and songs

  • To have fun

Junior Preschool Program (2-3 years)

 

Goals for Junior Preschool

  • Promote positive peer interaction

  • Proper use of manners

  • Developing autonomy (i.e. putting on their own clothing, etc)

  • To encourage sharing toys and learning to take turns

  • Recognition of colors and shapes and the beginning recognition of numbers and letters

  • Communicating their desires with a proper tone of voice

  • Trying to establish and lengthen attention spans through stories and songs

  • Encouraged to express themselves verbally rather than acting out in negative ways

  • Learn to make choices by making decisions in their free play

  • Learn self-control and practice safety rules when out for walks

  • Develop social skills: to encourage sharing and talking as opposed to fighting

  • Develop fine motor skills through activities such as coloring, use of glue, and scissors during art activities

  • Encourage creativity and imagination through art and free play

  • Develop listening skills through activities such as story and circle time

  • Encourage independence by allowing the children to dress themselves and to begin handling their personal toileting

  • Develop an understanding of “play centers” and the organization and use of toys in each designated area

  • Develop gross motor skills through the use of gross motor games and exercises.

  • Develop a self-concept.

  • Encourage recognition of their printed name and personal belongings

  • Develop verbal skills through story, song and discussion, especially at Circle time and free play

  • Create a caring atmosphere that will nurture a child’s physical and mental growth

Senior Preschool Program (3-5 years)

Goals for Senior Preschool

  • Promote positive peer interaction

  • Proper use of manners

  • Developing autonomy in the children (i.e. putting on their own clothing, etc)

  • Encourage sharing toys and learning to take turns

  • Recognition of colors and shapes and the beginning recognition of numbers and letters

  • Establish the days of the week through the use of a calendar every day

  • Communicate their desires with a proper tone of voice

  • Establish and lengthen attention spans in the children through stories and songs

  • Encouraged to express themselves verbally rather than acting out in negative ways

  • Learn to make choices by making decisions in their free play

  • Learn self-control and practice safety rules when out for walks

  • Develop social skills.  We wish to encourage sharing and talking as opposed to fighting
